Whoa! I’ve seen a number of posts on Facebook raving about The Last Mrs. Parrish, and recently saw a poll of readers asking what their favorite book of the year was to which many people replied The Last Mrs. Parrish. I requested the audiobook from the library months ago, waited what seemed like a lifetime to receive my hold, and was unfortunately on vacation when I finally received it so ended up having to return it without listening. I was so disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to listen to it and immediately added my name back to the wait list. I waited another month or so to finally receive it the second time around and promised I would not like the opportunity slip by.
I’m so glad I finally listened to it because it was fabulous!
Liv Constantine wrote a clever and engrossing novel full of twists and turns, while Suzanne Elise Freeman and Meghan Wolf (our narrators) brought the story alive. I have to admit that in the first hour or so I wasn’t sure if I was in love with the narrator, but by the time I was a few chapters in I was hooked.
The story centers around Amber Patterson, a jealous woman, hellbent on having the life she feels she deserves, even if it means destroying the lives of others to get it. Amber sets her sights on the Parrish family, a rich couple straight out of a fairytale. To Amber, they have it all, and she slowly manipulates her way into their life, befriending Daphne (the wife) and seducing Jackson (the husband), determined to weasel her way into the luxurious, high class life of the rich. But is Amber about to get more than she bargained for? You’ll have to read to find out.
I loved the twists in this book. I can generally see surprises coming in thriller-type books, but this one caught me completely off guard. I found myself stunned halfway through the book and had to give props to Liv Constantine for how clever she was in her writing of the characters.
To all the people who posted on Facebook and raved and ranted about how amazing The Last Mrs. Parrish was, thank you! You did not let me down. Definitely would consider this one a “must read.”
