One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Breakfast Club meets Gossip Girl meets murder mystery? Check!
The Princess. The Criminal. The Nerd. The Jock. And the Gossipy Social Media Blogger? I mean, I don’t think that’s how the original goes, but it’s how One of Us is Lying goes. When everybody unexpectedly ends up in detention together and the Gossipy Social Media Blogger ends up dead, the accusations start to fly. Is one of the other students the killer? Were they in it together? Or was it somebody else entirely? What unravels is a story full of lies, deception, and red herrings.
I loved the concept of this book. It grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go. I typically have hunches about murder mysteries and am able to guess who the killer is, but while listening to this book, I found myself wavering back and forth. I definitely didn’t guess the ending in advance.
The audiobook was good. There were multiple narrators representing the various main characters which kept it interesting and engaging.
Overall, this was a solid 4 star murder mystery. Would recommend to anybody looking for an easy-to-read, fast-paced murder mystery with a good twist.
